“God will never give you more than you can handle.” I’ve heard this many times, believed it, and even passed it on.
Yet the more I study Scripture and the gift of grace,the more certain I am that this is a fallacy.
God never promised we wouldn’t face more than we could handle on our own. If that were true, what would be the point of grace and where would be God’s glory? What need would there be for the cross?
Instead, the Lord promised that He would see us through those difficult times, including struggles that never resolve this side of eternity.
God never promised we wouldn't face more than we could handle; instead He promised He'd help us through those times. Share on X
My beautiful daughter, Rachel, is an incredible blessing, yet with her global delays comes ongoing frustrations and heartaches. This will likely continue for her/my lifetime.
Limitations, losses, and fears wear me down. The burdens are more than I can carry on my own.
For self-sufficient types like me, this realization of our weakness and need for a weight-bearer is difficult to acknowledge. But it is the truth nevertheless.
You Are Too Weak, God’s Not
All of us are too weak to handle life’s downers well on our own.
You and I need God’s love, strength, mercy, forgiveness, wisdom to make it through. We need His presence.
All of us are too weak to handle life's downers well on our own. We need God to make it through. Share on X
We all have plenty of struggles and suffering. There is more than enough to go around. You have your own set of burdens. Some that will come and go, some that will linger for a lifetime.
Don’t waste time trying to convince yourself you can handle it. You can’t. But The Lord can. Lean into Him. Put on His armor and walk through undefeated.
God doesn’t promise our issues will go away or that we will be able to handle them on our own. But He does promise that He will be there to strengthen and encourage.
When we are weak, He is strong for us.
“When you pass through the waters,
I will be with you;
and when you pass through the rivers,
they will not sweep over you.
When you walk through the fire,
you will not be burned;
the flames will not set you ablaze.” (Isaiah 43:2)
Reflections: What difficulty/struggle are you trying to overcome with your own strength? What’s preventing you from turning it over to the Master of the Universe?

Hello, I'm Julie, an imperfect wife and mother of four. Life in this broken world is not always easy. Yet, joy can be found in each day through the grace and mercy of the Lord Jesus Christ.
I find it's easy for our day's blessings to get lost in its happenings. But God's "mercies never end" (Lamentations 3:22) and His "grace is sufficient" (2 Corinthians 12:9).
May the posts and pages on this site offer you a measure of peace and encouragement.

So, so good. Yes indeed to that Isaiah promise!!
This verse is a favorite of mine. Isaiah is packed with surprises.
I’m smiling because my church just completed a study on myths and this was one of them. You nailed it! So glad He led me here today. Blessings to you, Beth
You can’t go wrong following where the Lord leads, Beth. Glad He led you here as well. It is so easy to buy into some of these myths, isn’t it?
Great. Thank you.
