5 Minute Growth
Okay, I am trying something new here, and it is very scary! Every Friday, The Gypsy Mama hosts 5 Minute Friday where bloggers write for 5 minutes straight about a subject and then post it without making any changes or edits. This is particularly difficult for me because as an editor, I am wired to fix grammatical mistakes, and I am extremely picky about my writing. However, in order to GROW (the subject for this particular 5 Minute Friday), one has to move out of the comfort zone, so here goes!
GO
I so badly want to grow. I want to grow in the Word. I want to grow closer to God. I want to grow in faith.
And I want to help others grow. I believe that is what God has planned for me for a long time—that I would encourage others in their relationship with the Lord.
But so often I doubt.
Why? If I feel God’s call in my life, why the questions?
The enemy is alive and well and would love for me to feel inadequate in my calling.
The other thing that plagues me is concern for why I am doing this in the first place. Why am I writing? Why am I speaking?
Is it because I want to be heard or is it truly for God’s glory?
It is so easy to lose perspective and get caught up in how many comments my post receives or how many pats on the back I get.
I need to keep reminding myself that it is for His glory, and it is His job to do the growing. All He wants from me is to be faithful in my calling. He wants me to do my part. He will take care of the rest!
STOP
“So, what is Apollos? And what is Paul? They are servants through whom you believed, and each has the role the Lord has given. I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the growth. So then neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but only God who gives the growth” (1 Corinthians 3:5–7).
How has God called you to grow? Are you content to just plant the seeds in the lives of others and let God do the growing? Are you wrestling with doubts as I am?
_________
Well, that wasn’t as bad as it could have been. It’s amazing how fast 5 minutes goes by (I confess, 5 minutes 15 seconds). Thanks for being my cheerleaders through this trial run!
By His Grace,
Julie

Hello, I'm Julie, an imperfect wife and mother of four. Life in this broken world is not always easy. Yet, joy can be found in each day through the grace and mercy of the Lord Jesus Christ.
I find it's easy for our day's blessings to get lost in its happenings. But God's "mercies never end" (Lamentations 3:22) and His "grace is sufficient" (2 Corinthians 12:9).
May the posts and pages on this site offer you a measure of peace and encouragement.

I’m here from Lisa Jo’s. So glad you could join this week.
You are so right. It’s so easy to get caught up in comments when we should be caught up in Him and His calling. When we do our part, He’ll do His. God gives the growth. Perfect scripture to pair with this.
Wouldn’t it be wonderful if we could just get so caught up in the Lord that there was no room for any earthly distractions! Alas, not on this side of Heaven! Thanks for stopping by, Sandra.
So glad that you took the plunge!! I have found that these Fridays are my favorite time of the week! Love your thoughts today.
I think I will find them very inspiring as well, Patty Ann!
I agree, it is easy to lose perspective by getting patted on the back. To help you out, everyone will stop commenting and looking at your blog.

Don’t pay attention to his second sentence; he is my soon-to-be-off-to-college smart-aleck son! 🙂
My son is brilliant, witting, and charming. I wish I had time to describe how amazing he is. He can also leave comments in my name.
See what I mean about the smart-aleck part! But he is sometimes charming and witty; brilliant might be stretching it a bit!
