[From the Archives] Cry, “Abba, Father”

Gold Brush Stroke

I pray this post from the archives blesses you. I’m taking some time off from creating new content to refocus and spend time with family. God willing, I’ll be back January 2 with new posts and a new look.

The word floated down the hall. A single word, spoken so soft and sweetly.

“Mama.” One word that always melts my heart. One word that always draws me near.

When Rachel voices it, it doesn’t matter what else I’m doing. My attention is arrested, drawn to her precious little face.

On this eve as I rush to check the “to dos” off my list, she reaches out, calling my name, the only name she’s ever used for me: “Mama.” It squeezes through her bedroom door.

She knows I’m there, and more importantly, she knows I will come.

How can I not? She is my daughter, one I love. And she’s called my name.

The Father Hears

The power of her call startles me. It sinks deep into my heart and pulls me to her, making me attune to her needs and desires.

Even more startling is we see the same response in God our Father. When we utter the name of the Lord, His gaze is drawn to us. He stands ready to come.

We don’t need to wax elegant. Our words don’t have to take on a certain cadence or follow a specific protocol.

We don't need to use fancy words or proper prayers; speaking God's name is enough to draw Him near. Share on X

He delights in His children’s voices. Each time we call on His name, we can be assured He hears. But He doesn’t stop there.

Whether we whisper His name in reverence, sing it in joy, or stammer it in despair, the Lord is moved to respond.

Our articulations are His invitation. When we proclaim His name, Abba Father will come. How can He not? We are His children, those He loves. And we called His name.

Come, Lord, draw near!

“You didn’t receive a spirit of slavery to lead you back again into fear, but you received a Spirit that shows you are adopted as his children. With this Spirit, we cry, ‘Abba, Father.’”(Romans 8:15, CEB).

Reflections: Have you called on the name of your Father yet? If not, what is stopping you? Rest assured, He will hear, but more importantly, He will come!

By His Grace,

Julie

Julie Sunne

Hello, I'm Julie, an imperfect wife and mother of four. Life in this broken world is not always easy. Yet, joy can be found in each day through the grace and mercy of the Lord Jesus Christ.

I find it's easy for our day's blessings to get lost in its happenings. But God's "mercies never end" (Lamentations 3:22) and His "grace is sufficient" (2 Corinthians 12:9).

May the posts and pages on this site offer you a measure of peace and encouragement.
