Love Despite the Weeds (The Perfect Valentine)

Gold Brush Stroke

To many it doesn’t seem like much. An arched walking bridge. A low stone wall. A few flowers. A bunch of weeds to some.

Rachel Pooh garden

Yet this garden is special. Sewed with love and dreams, and watered with tears, it is a garden from my heart. A tribute to a daughter that changed my life, in agonizingly amazing ways.

Perhaps not much to look at; perhaps still not producing the desired beauty. It nevertheless holds a special place in my heart.

I, too, am often not much to look at—especially in the deep recesses of my heart. Sin sprouts quickly, weeds choking out the flowers I try to produce in my weak flesh.

Perhaps a little beauty shines through, but the ugliness of pride and self-sufficiency grows faster and taller.

Yet despite my lack of production, I still hold a special place in God’s heart. He has sewed me with love and grace and watered me with His tears and blood.

He has done the same for you. The Lord sees past the unwanted to the beauty buried within.

everlasting love

His beauty waiting to be released. And He loves us.

He loves you and me with an everlasting love …

… the perfect Valentine.

The Lord … saying: “I have loved you with an everlasting love;
I have drawn you with unfailing kindness.” (Jeremiah 31:3)

This brought tears to my eyes: “I, too, am often not much to look at–especially in the deep recesses of my heart.” It really can feel that way sometimes, can’t it? Have you read Paul Young’s Cross Roads? If not, I want to loan you my copy. It’s about what God does to the weed-overrun gardens in our hearts. Such a good read!

I have not read Cross Roads, Laurie. That’s sweet of you to offer it. Thank you! Have a nice Valentine’s Day.

Hello, I'm Julie, an imperfect wife and mother of four. Life in this broken world is not always easy. Yet, joy can be found in each day through the grace and mercy of the Lord Jesus Christ.

I find it's easy for our day's blessings to get lost in its happenings. But God's "mercies never end" (Lamentations 3:22) and His "grace is sufficient" (2 Corinthians 12:9).

May the posts and pages on this site offer you a measure of peace and encouragement.
