Truth for When You Are Tempted To Hide from God
We can never be hidden from God, and that really is a good thing.
Have you ever tried to hide from God? I have.
- Perhaps you did something you knew wasn’t right.
- Maybe you were exhausted and just wanted a break.
- You may have even had times, like Jonah, when you don’t want to do what God calls you to, so you tried to run away.
For me, I hid in anger and confusion, desperately wondering if the Lord cared about my circumstances yet not really wanting to know.
But try as we might to hide, it never works.
Just as God knew right where Adam and Eve had hidden themselves after eating of the forbidden fruit (Genesis 3:8–10), so He knows exactly where you and me are.
Just as Jonah couldn’t hide on a tiny ship in a big sea (Jonah 1–2), there is never a place remote enough to hide from God.
The truth is: You are never hidden from God. You cannot be hidden from Him.
You are never hidden from God. You cannot be hidden from Him. Share on X
I suppose this can be a bit scary, but isn’t it also such a great comfort!?
God is sovereign and all-knowing. He created you in His image. He knew you before you were born. He loves you enough to offer His Son to die in your place. And He never loses sight of you or leaves you alone.
In your sorrow, He mourns with you. In your joy, He rejoices with you. In your failures, He offers redemption. In your journey, He helps carry your load.
With God…
You are always found.
You are always known.
You are always loved.
With God, you are always found; you are always known; you are always loved. Share on X
And those are always good things.
“Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence? If I go up to the heavens, you are there;
if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.
9 If I rise on the wings of the dawn,
if I settle on the far side of the sea,
10 even there your hand will guide me,
your right hand will hold me fast.“ (Psalm 139:7-10)
Reflection: Have you ever tried to hide from God? What did you learn from the experience?

Hello, I'm Julie, an imperfect wife and mother of four. Life in this broken world is not always easy. Yet, joy can be found in each day through the grace and mercy of the Lord Jesus Christ.
I find it's easy for our day's blessings to get lost in its happenings. But God's "mercies never end" (Lamentations 3:22) and His "grace is sufficient" (2 Corinthians 12:9).
May the posts and pages on this site offer you a measure of peace and encouragement.

Well we may think we are hiding from him but we are not, for he is all seeing and all knowing and he is everywhere. With that being said, it’s my belief that we should always be in repentant and always ask for forgiveness daily. What’s done in darkness comes to light. We can’t hide from the Lord.
So true, Mary, but oh how we try sometimes. Yet how wonderful it is that God always chooses to see … and love … and extend grace to the repentant believer.
Great post such a blessing.
Thank you, dear Mary.
Julie: We can’t ever hide from God. We can’t hide our thoughts or feelings from him. When I started reading this, I thought of Psalm 139. And then you had it in your entry.
Psalm 139 is such a blessing, Cecelia. One of my favorites.
