When Every Day Doesn’t Glow With the Beauty of Spring
There’s no ignoring the joy on people’s faces as spring approaches. They anticipate exchanging winter coats for short sleeves and boots for flipflops.
Spirits lift as those first buds open to reveal unfurling bright green leaves. Rains infuse freshness as they wash away the last of the dirty snow.
The sun warms the earth. Longer days beckon us outside into the evening hours.
Everywhere we look new life springs up, lifting our attitudes with it. It’s hard to be sullen and moody when outside glows with promise and beauty.
Not Every Day Glows Brightly
But not every day can be a fresh spring day.
Not every day can have new color and new scents popping.
Not every day will shout new life with each passing moment.
Not every day will be easy and lovely and enjoyable. Some days … well, they’re just hard.
For those days, we need reminders of the underlying the beauty, the dormant promises waiting to unfurl.
I’ve found we can’t just wait for our attitudes to improve. God’s given us the reasons to live joyfully; we need to open our senses to find them.

Attitude Adjustment
For an attitude adjustment, we need to seek out the newness of a warm, sunny spring day in the dreariness of every day. We need to look for the color that pops, the scent that invigorates, the sound that soothes.
We need to trust the blessings are there and be open to receiving them with all our senses turned on.
God’s grace is not only sufficient to bring us salvation, His grace is sufficient to give us joy and purpose in the dreariest of days.

All we have to do is open ourselves to receiving it each day.
Yet …
I have to admit, some mornings get the best of me and I become stiff and closed to the gifts of the day. It’s then I need to be intentional about looking for the spring in my day.
For those days I created the Reclaim Today action card, especially the second action to diligently seek out the day’s blessings of newness and beauty.

New Blessings Every Day
In the Lord’s prayer we say, “Give us today our daily bread” (Matthew 6:11).
And He does. It’s new every day. See it. Smell it. Hear it. Touch it. Taste it.
Then write it down and give thanks for it. Praise God from Whom all blessings flow!
He is pouring those blessings out on you and me. Rejoice in it, even on those less-than-sunny winter days.
“And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.” 2 Corinthians 2:8-9
Reflections: As you diligently seek the gifts God has poured out on you today, what new color, new growth, new texture, new scent or new sound have you come across? Today what are you thankful for? Consider sharing the gift you noted in the comment section below.

Hello, I'm Julie, an imperfect wife and mother of four. Life in this broken world is not always easy. Yet, joy can be found in each day through the grace and mercy of the Lord Jesus Christ.
I find it's easy for our day's blessings to get lost in its happenings. But God's "mercies never end" (Lamentations 3:22) and His "grace is sufficient" (2 Corinthians 12:9).
May the posts and pages on this site offer you a measure of peace and encouragement.
