Christmas seldom looks the way we expect it to.
We want it to be perfect, but things always get in the way. Squabbles between family members. Stretched finances. Health issues. Work schedules.
I struggle with that. A fixer and doer by nature, I want to plan and do enough to make it perfect. But all I receive in return is stress and frustration. So I’m slowly learning to let go of such expectations.
Because it’s not about whether our Christmas is picture perfect.
What Christmas Is Not About
Christmas is not about
- whether we get the perfect gifts,
- whether our kids are home for the holidays (although we certainly all want that),
- whether we have an abundance of well cooked and seasoned food.
It doesn’t even matter whether we find ourselves in an incredibly difficult health situation.
The only thing that really matters when it comes to finding Christmas joy and peace is the One whom Christmas is about: Jesus Christ. Immanuel. God With Us.

What Christmas Is About
Christmas is about Christ. It’s really as simple as that. Health, time with family, gifts: they’re all nice and appreciated, but they’re icing on the cake, extra blessings for which to be grateful.
Christmas Joy
But only when we keep Christmas centered on Jesus Christ, will we find peace in our imperfect celebrations … joy in even the most deprived of Christmases.

When we keep our focus on Jesus, we will always feel like joining the angels in proclaiming,“Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!” (Luke 2:14, NKJV), no matter how messy our Christmas looks.
“Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people.11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.” Luke 2:10-11 ESV
Blessed Christmas wishes from my house to yours! May Christmas joy be yours each and every year.
By His Grace,
Julie
Hello, I'm Julie, an imperfect wife and mother of four. Life in this broken world is not always easy. Yet, joy can be found in each day through the grace and mercy of the Lord Jesus Christ.
I find it's easy for our day's blessings to get lost in its happenings. But God's "mercies never end" (Lamentations 3:22) and His "grace is sufficient" (2 Corinthians 12:9).
May the posts and pages on this site offer you a measure of peace and encouragement.
