“Felt” Love

Gold Brush Stroke

loveWalking into therapy the other day, an unexpected feeling suddenly washed over me: a deep, encompassing love. The thought, I love people, I really do, looped through my mind. And it didn’t just stay between my ears, it engulfed my entire body.

I didn’t just think love, I felt love!

My next thought: Where did that come from?

It wasn’t as if I had an exceptional amount of sleep the night before, breakfast was nonexistent that morning, I was heading into therapy of all things, and my “to-do” list certainly wasn’t shrinking! I could find no logical reason for my unusual feeling.

I know, I know—weird! And I’m not writing this to receive “Atta girl’s” or pats on the back or for others to think I’m something special (trust me, I’m not). The sensation of love was so powerful, I knew I had to distill it and share its secret.

I mean, I’m generally a friendly person, rarely belligerent or rude, but I don’t think I could have always claimed to really love people–at least, not all people. Why now?

After all, human beings can be mean, rude, obnoxious, lazy, selfish, annoying (is that the same as obnoxious?), loud, needy, and time consuming. (I think I might be describing me, but hopefully, I don’t reflect all in the same day.) That hasn’t changed. In fact, it may have grown worse.

I considered it as my therapist put me through my paces and eventually came to the conclusion that the intense love I felt for others could only be the love of Jesus Christ.

It wasn’t really my love at all. It was His love manifesting itself through me. Because my hope is in the Lord, because I place my trust in Him, because I have been more diligent in cultivating my relationship with Him, His love is able to shine through my dull exterior.

When I draw near to Him, He fills me with His love, so I can share it with others. What an incredible feeling to be loved like that!

In need of more love? Draw near to the Lord and be engulfed in His never-ending love for you!

We love because He first loved us (1 John 4:19).

Hello, I'm Julie, an imperfect wife and mother of four. Life in this broken world is not always easy. Yet, joy can be found in each day through the grace and mercy of the Lord Jesus Christ.

I find it's easy for our day's blessings to get lost in its happenings. But God's "mercies never end" (Lamentations 3:22) and His "grace is sufficient" (2 Corinthians 12:9).

May the posts and pages on this site offer you a measure of peace and encouragement.
