Books that Matter for Advent #shortburstsofencouragement
I didn’t go shopping on Black Friday nor did I do much on Cyber Monday, but I do appreciate good deals. And as Christmas approaches, I especially enjoy finding discounts on books and other items that help me focus on the gift of Jesus.
Few things I like better than curling up on a cold winter evening with a cup of hot tea, the soft glow of a lit candle, and a book highlighting the love of Jesus.
Every year I buy at least one Christmas book, sometimes a devotional like this year’s purchase of Ann Voskamp’s Unwrapping the Greatest Gift. (Just click on an image to find our more about a book or purchase it.*)
Sometimes an inspirational read just for me like last year’s purchase of Liz Curtis Higgs’ The Women of Christmas.
Still more often I find myself drawn to inspirational collections of Christmas shorter stories to read aloud to my kids like these.
And then there are the fun Advent celebration books like this oldie but goodie by Rebecca Hayford Bauer. This is one of the first books of my Christmas collection and a favorite with songs, Scripture, and meaningful information and activities.
I also love to purchase inexpensive little gift books to tuck in for teachers and friends.
Because Advent should be a time of anticipation and preparation of our hearts and minds to celebrate the Greatest Gift anyone ever received.

Let the love of Christ saturate your life this Advent season.
Rest in His presence with the Bible and an inspirational book or two. Oh, and don’t forget the hot drink!
“Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.” Colossians 3:1-2
Reflections: What is one of your favorite books for the Christmas season?
I’m joining Holley Gerth for her Coffee for Your Heart Wednesday link-up and Rachel Wojnarowski for Whimsical Wednesdays. Click on the images to read more linked-up posts. So much wonderful encouragement!

Hello, I'm Julie, an imperfect wife and mother of four. Life in this broken world is not always easy. Yet, joy can be found in each day through the grace and mercy of the Lord Jesus Christ.
I find it's easy for our day's blessings to get lost in its happenings. But God's "mercies never end" (Lamentations 3:22) and His "grace is sufficient" (2 Corinthians 12:9).
May the posts and pages on this site offer you a measure of peace and encouragement.

I have several of your recommended books and love them! I pull them out each Christmas season and it’s like connecting with old friends!
That’s a great way of expressing that feeling each year, Elizabeth.
I hadn’t thought of it like that, Elizabeth, but you’re right, they are like old friends: a treasure.
Julie: When I worked at a library a few years ago. they had a mini collection of Christmas book that would astound any reader. Karen Kingsbury has a collection called the Red Glove series. One Christmas,I read each of them. This year, I read a novella collection called “When Tree Tops Glisten”.The three short novels are about a family in Christmas seasons during WW2. I won this book from a blog I follow.
Sounds like novels I would enjoy, Cecelia.
