In His Light [Look]

Gold Brush Stroke

light through the leavesThere’s a cave in the park my family and I live in. It extends far enough back, no light reaches to the end. We’ve visited on a couple occasions.

Crawling through the mud and slush in the cool dankness one eventually comes to an opening with room to sit. It’s quite the experience being far under the earth. Even more so when the flashlights go off. Barely whispering, we encourage everyone to flip their lights off–just for a moment.

The darkness is intense. Not even a hand in front of eyes can be seen. The absence of light literally engulfs. I almost feel disembodied in that moment. Rarely, in our lives of technology and electronics can we experience such an amazing phenomenon.

Being engulfed in darkness is not always such a great experience, however. Not when it happens in our daily lives.

At times I feel I’m stumbling blindly through my day. I can’t see what’s coming, and I hardly know where I’ve been.

The darkness of my events engulf me. I’ve found this happens when I’ve taken my eyes off the true Source of light. My perspective becomes skewed so I can’t even see my hand in front of my face. I’ve allowed too much worry and anxiety to get in the way.

My gaze has shifted from the Source of all hope to me and my strength. How foolish.

In order to find the light, I need only look to the Source.

Where the Lord is, there is no darkness. (←Tweet this!)

Keeping my eyes focused on Jesus keeps me in His light.

And His light is worth looking for.

When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” (John 8:12)

I really enjoyed this post! Taking my eyes off of the True source of light ends up being the start of my “darkness” way more often than I’d like. Thanks for the encouragement to keep our eyes on Him!

Julie Sunne

Hello, I'm Julie, an imperfect wife and mother of four. Life in this broken world is not always easy. Yet, joy can be found in each day through the grace and mercy of the Lord Jesus Christ.

I find it's easy for our day's blessings to get lost in its happenings. But God's "mercies never end" (Lamentations 3:22) and His "grace is sufficient" (2 Corinthians 12:9).

May the posts and pages on this site offer you a measure of peace and encouragement.
