It Is You, Lord (a letter to God)

Gold Brush Stroke

This letter to God comes at a time when I’m facing some tough transitions. It embodies my struggle with surrendering my needs and desires, indeed my everything, to Him. I pray it blesses each of you.

letter writing

Dear God,

In this earthly life, You call us to do hard. But I am so very weak. And the crazy thing is, even though I know I can do nothing apart from You, I still try.

So forgive me, dear Father, for doubting You, questioning Your Word, trying to “do” life on my own. Do not judge me as I deserve, but extend me Your mercy.

I acknowledge I need You desperately. That need increases with each passing day.

Difficult change is coming. I must begin letting go of a life that is comfortable and familiar: a life I love, a role I cherish. Confusion and fear has set in.

At the same time, I feel You calling me to step out in faith, to stretch and challenge myself to share Your love and truth to others.

But I’m scared, Lord.

So I’m reaching out to You.

Take my hand on lonely days. Be my Comforter when sorrow overtakes me. Carry me when my strength fails. Fill my life with your presence.

Lord, take my hand on lonely days. Be my Comforter when sorrow overtakes me. Carry me when my strength fails. Share on X

I love You and am so thankful for You. But sometimes I forget.

I forget that I needn’t fear anything …

because it is You, Lord, and You are my “light and my salvation … the stronghold of my life” (Psalm 27:1). You protect and guide me.

I forget that through You, Jesus, death is really life and that I have power over temptation …

because it is You, Lord, and You have defeated death and sin. By Your sacrifice on the cross You paid the ultimate price for my life, my freedom. As Your child, I can embrace the promise of eternal life.

I forget that when you call me you also equip me …

because it is You, Lord, and You always provide (Hebrews 13:20). You give me words to say when I am to speak or write, discernment and wisdom when there are decisions to make, light to see the next step. You guide me.

I forget that I don’t have to be perfect or look a certain way or perform well enough …

because it is You, Lord, and you formed me in Your image, perfected me in Your death and resurrection, and gave me a saving faith through Your grace.

I forget that I should not grieve as one without hope …

because it is You, Lord, and You offer peace and redemption for all our sorrow: The death of a loved one, sending a son off to college, coping with an illness or disability: You will wipe away every tear (Revelation 7:17).

I forget that I can rest in You …

because it is You, Lord, and You are all I need.

Remembering isn’t easy for me. Please forgive me as I fail repeatedly, as I continue to stumble in many areas of trust.

Ever remind me that

because it is You, Lord, my days can be filled with rejoicing and hope in the midst of the hard.

I often forget, but because it is You, Lord, my days can be filled with rejoicing and hope in the midst of the hard. Share on X

Praise Your name forever!

“Rest in God alone, my soul, for my hope comes from Him. He alone is my rock and my salvation, my stronghold; I will not be shaken. My salvation and glory depend on God, my strong rock. My refuge is in God. Trust in Him at all times, you people; pour out your hearts before Him. God is our refuge.” (Romans 8:26-27).

Love,

Julie (Your weary and confused, yet hope-filled, deeply grateful daughter)

Amen to all your requests. May the Lord shepherd you through the difficult changes you face. May He wrap you up in the conscious awareness of His love at all times. May He sustain you with true hope.

I’m sorry for your present hardships, but you express them beautifully here. Reading your letter blessed me today. I’m glad I stopped by from the Faith Barista Jam list.

    Grace to you in Jesus!

Hello, I'm Julie, an imperfect wife and mother of four. Life in this broken world is not always easy. Yet, joy can be found in each day through the grace and mercy of the Lord Jesus Christ.

I find it's easy for our day's blessings to get lost in its happenings. But God's "mercies never end" (Lamentations 3:22) and His "grace is sufficient" (2 Corinthians 12:9).

May the posts and pages on this site offer you a measure of peace and encouragement.
