Love Declared Loud

Gold Brush Stroke

On Fridays at The Gypsy Mama, we write for 5 minutes flat on a certain prompt. Today’s word is Loud.

Mother's love

GO

The flashlight illuminates the text. I settle in. Her leaning against me.

I rub her back, her feet, her hands; whispering words of encouragement.

My voice hushed, I read quietly, trying to distract, trying to lull. Her feverish body shivers in the dark, begging for comfort as I strive to give just that.

My words take on a cadence. She relaxes, then shifts and whines. My heart lurches. Were I to be the one lying in misery, body temperature soaring beyond normal? That is my desire. Because at least I understand: this too will pass.

My mother-arms wrap her in love, instill what little comfort I can into her sick frame. Lips moving in praise and prayer, beseeching healing. I feel His presence, holding us both.

In the whisper of words, in the gentle touch, a mother’s love is imparted. Muted in sound but loud and bold, in the hush of the night, love is declared, to her, to me.

STOP

“He comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any kind of affliction, through the comfort we ourselves receive from God” (2 Corinthians 1:4).

Reflections: We’ve all offered comfort. We’ve all received comfort. When do you typically feel the most comforted, the most loved? Are your fears and hurts assuaged more during the dark of night or the light of day; while comforting others; or when being ministered to by friends and family?

By His Grace,

Julie

What a beautiful picture, love and trial. A mother’s compassion. Praying you’re little darling is feeling better!

Thanks for the kind words and prayers, Jessie. “We love because He first loved us” (1 John 4:19).

Julie Sunne

Hello, I'm Julie, an imperfect wife and mother of four. Life in this broken world is not always easy. Yet, joy can be found in each day through the grace and mercy of the Lord Jesus Christ.

I find it's easy for our day's blessings to get lost in its happenings. But God's "mercies never end" (Lamentations 3:22) and His "grace is sufficient" (2 Corinthians 12:9).

May the posts and pages on this site offer you a measure of peace and encouragement.
