You Are Never Truly Alone
Although we often feel lost and alone in this life, we never truly are.
A while back I had a dream, I guess a nightmare really. I had parked in a beach lot in Florida and walked over the dunes to sit on the beach as Hurricane Irma approached.
A young lady with intellectual delays sat with me. Surprisingly, it was not my daughter.
As the winds picked up we decided to leave, only I couldn’t remember where I parked the van. In a panic, I ran around looking for it, only to then lose my companion!
Emergency personnel were busy. Everyone else was trying to leave. I felt completely lost and alone. What a horrible feeling!
I’ve had similar dreams where I’m hopelessly lost and can’t find my way (on a school campus for example). It’s awful!
Yet God is always available to help us find our way. He is always there for us.
Utterly Lost and Alone
Naomi knows what it means to be lost and alone. Her story is chronicled in the book of Ruth.
Naomi and her husband take their two sons and travel to a foreign country (Moab) to survive a famine in their own land of Judah. While in Moab, her sons marry but then both die along with her husband, leaving Naomi without an heir or a caretaker.
Three women left alone, the eldest in a foreign land, with no way to provide for themselves. That’s alone!
Filled with grief and hopelessness, Naomi determines to make the long trek back to her home. To give you the condensed version: only one of her daughters-in-law, Ruth, accompanied her.
Two women journeying alone, with no providers and the unknown awaiting them at their destination: I imagine it to be a rather quiet walk, as both women stewed with their own thoughts.
How alone they must have felt! Ruth leaving all she has known. Naomi having nothing left and no one to turn to for help … or so she thought.
She must have felt isolated in her grief.
Yet Never Alone
But One did celebrate Naomi’s every step. One who never left her side. And not only did the Lord never leave Naomi, but He was leading her to a place of abundance! He redeemed her sorrow.
It is horrible to feel lost and alone. Yet if we know the Lord, we never are truly alone … or truly lost for that matter.
So whether you find yourself caught in a storm right now or are watching one approach … whether you are wandering alone or traveling with others who have no idea how lost you truly feel, look to God for direction and comfort.
Let Him be your compass and your companion! Ask Him to make His presence known to you, and trust that He is leading you to a place of abundance.

Reflections: When you feel lost and alone, what’s your first response? If it’s not to ask for God to make Himself known to you, why not?
By His Grace,
Julie
Hello, I'm Julie, an imperfect wife and mother of four. Life in this broken world is not always easy. Yet, joy can be found in each day through the grace and mercy of the Lord Jesus Christ.
I find it's easy for our day's blessings to get lost in its happenings. But God's "mercies never end" (Lamentations 3:22) and His "grace is sufficient" (2 Corinthians 12:9).
May the posts and pages on this site offer you a measure of peace and encouragement.
