Number 1 Reason To Move Out From the Shadow of Regret

Gold Brush Stroke

Often we live in regret, in the shadow of our poor choices, instead of walking in the light of God’s grace, and although our choices can’t be undone, they can be redeemed.

Years ago, I pushed ahead with something I knew was wrong. There was no doubt, but I went forward with it anyway. Why? Because it was something I wanted to do.

Now, every once in awhile, the regret of my choice resurfaces. It hounds me because I could have, should have, made a better choice. And it causes me to doubt my worth in God’s eyes.

Living in the Shadow of Regret

Often we live in the shadow of our poor choices instead of walking in the light of God’s grace.

True, our past mistakes can’t be undone. But equally true, through Jesus Christ, they can be redeemed.

And we need to walk out our days in that truth. We need to live in the truth of who God is:

  • As a holy God, His anger burns against our unfaithfulness, just as it did against the Israelites in Joshua 7:1.
  • As a just God, our disobedience demands retribution (Matthew 23:33-36)
  • But as a merciful God, He sent His Son to redeem our sins … Even. While. We. Continued. To. Sin (Romans 5:8)!

Yet we often fail to grab hold of His grace. We continue to berate ourselves and live in our past sins. In essence, we reject His grace.

Walking in Grace

The author of Hebrews admonishes us to camp in grace (Hebrews 12:14-29). To take hold of that which such a precious price was paid.

For it’s only when we walk in grace that we can worship and serve God effectively.

Now hear me on this: Grace is certainly not a license to live a sinful lifestyle, to intentionally break the laws and beg forgiveness later.

However, grace is a license to ditch the guilt, to let the past rest in the bosom of Christ, to walk hand-in-hand with the Lord.

God is holy enough to wrap us all in righteousness, just enough to require payment for our sins, and merciful enough to provide that payment.

Yahweh is faithful and gracious to redeem our failed lives, through the righteous blood of Jesus Christ.

And as we allow ourselves to embrace His grace, we begin to breathe in unison with the Lord, dancing to His music. We discover an intimacy previously masked by our regret. An intimacy that allows us to walk out our lives in effective and acceptable worship and service to Him.

That’s living the beautiful life of grace.

“For sin will not rule over you, because you are not under law but under grace.” (Romans 6:14)

Thank you, Jesus, for unmerited favor and a covering of righteousness!

Julie Sunne

Hello, I'm Julie, an imperfect wife and mother of four. Life in this broken world is not always easy. Yet, joy can be found in each day through the grace and mercy of the Lord Jesus Christ.

I find it's easy for our day's blessings to get lost in its happenings. But God's "mercies never end" (Lamentations 3:22) and His "grace is sufficient" (2 Corinthians 12:9).

May the posts and pages on this site offer you a measure of peace and encouragement.
