Today Will Not Return, but You Have a Choice: What Will It Be?

Gold Brush Stroke

Enjoy today … it won’t come back. —Amish Proverb

I love this Amish proverb. But years ago, I wouldn’t have paid much attention. I had to learn. I had to grow. I had to ask questions. I had to secure my anchor.

But I am learning … the days can drag on, but the seasons fly by. Don’t blink or the time will be gone. So let me encourage you …

Seed2

You only have one life and it begins where they all do … at the beginning. This life is a gift. Where will you sink your roots deep?

You will grow in your own unique ways, acquiring education and experience. Sometimes you can choose what will nourish you. Sometimes you have to choose what to do with the nourishment you receive. But you always have a choice…

Sometimes you choose what will nourish you. Sometimes you choose what to do with the nourishment you receive. Share on X

As you mature, more will be expected of you and more will occur that is unexpected. How will you sustain yourself during the times of drought and when the severe storms hit? Where will you find your anchor?

Fall leaves2

And the wheels will keep turning. And a season will end and another begins. Oh the joys and heartaches of each season—the pressures and beauty of change. I was not prepared. How will you find the strength to let go and move on?

And your time here will end … but not really end, just begin again. What’ll be your choice? What will you leave behind—a dried up leaf or a seed of truth and love?

“There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens” (Ecclesiastes 3:1).

Reflection: We all have but one earthly life. But we each have a choice in how we live it, in what/who we anchor ourselves, and where we receive our nourishment. What will you choose?

We all need that reminder occasionally, Julie. Humbled to be His instrument to convey it.

Julie Sunne

Hello, I'm Julie, an imperfect wife and mother of four. Life in this broken world is not always easy. Yet, joy can be found in each day through the grace and mercy of the Lord Jesus Christ.

I find it's easy for our day's blessings to get lost in its happenings. But God's "mercies never end" (Lamentations 3:22) and His "grace is sufficient" (2 Corinthians 12:9).

May the posts and pages on this site offer you a measure of peace and encouragement.
