Trusting God When You Can’t See What He Is Doing

Trusting God When You Can’t See What He Is Doing

Trusting God is easy to say but rarely as easy to do. Still, God gives us plenty of reasons to put our faith in Him. In fact, His very nature screams “trust me!”

Trusting GodThe Character of God

It’s true, we sometimes struggle with trusting God, especially during certain seasons. But it’s equally true that God is absolutely trustworthy. His character demands it. There is no way He can be unreliable, irresponsible, or misleading.

Therefore, when we get to know the Lord’s character, the attributes that comprise His nature, we bolster our faith in a real and lasting way.

The Promises of God

Much has been said about the promises of God. And that’s wonderful. His promises bring us hope. But promises are only hope giving if we can trust the one making them.

Thus, we need to understand who God is before we can take comfort and encouragement from His promises.

The Trustworthiness of God

That’s why I’m writing a book centered on the character of God. It’s one of the reasons my agent Dan Balow of The Steve Laube Agency agreed to pitch the book. It’s a big reason Associate Publisher Ashley Gorman was interested in my proposal and led B&H Publishing Group to offer me a publishing contract. (Yes, you read that correctly, after more than a decade of pitching book ideas, God has opened the door for me to land a traditional book contract!)

Because knowing God’s character is critical to maintaining hope during our most difficult seasons. We will not be tempted as often to question the Lord’s trustworthiness when we develop a deep understanding of who He is.

Trusting God Because of Who He Is

By His very essence, God is unchanging, all-loving, all-holy, all-just. He has no ability to lie and can never fail. Along with these attributes, His sovereign, infinite, and all-powerful nature assure us He can and does guide and direct our lives perfectly (albeit, often unclearly to us).

It’s easy to say I trust God when the days pass uneventfully. I’m writing a book on the character of God so I can say I trust Him when life takes unexpected, unwanted turns. I pray this book, tentatively titled, Sometimes I Forget, Lord: 60 Reminders of Hope for Your Hard Days, set to release in the summer of 2024, will allow you to do the same.

 “This is what the Lord says:
‘The wise person should not boast in his wisdom;
the strong should not boast in his strength;
the wealthy should not boast in his wealth.
24 But the one who boasts should boast in this:
that he understands and knows me—
that I am the Lord, showing faithful love,
justice, and righteousness on the earth,
for I delight in these things.
This is the Lord’s declaration.'” Jeremiah 9:23-24, CSB

Reflections: Which attribute(s) of God do you find most comforting?

Many of you helped me become a contracted author. Thank you!
