Three Ways to Love Big When You Feel You Have Little to Give

Gold Brush Stroke

Bob Goff is an incredibly generous man. He both intimidates me and inspires me.

Mr. Goff knows how to love big. He made his cell phone number available to hundreds of thousands of readers … and answers it. He builds schools in oppressed and poor countries. He actually gave away his law firm!

Give the Gift of Love

Yes, he intimidates me. Because when I compare myself to Bob, it seems I have so little to offer.

Yet God is teaching me much about how one can love well through my daughter, Rachel. He’s teaching me to value the little things in life, including the small ways we can love others.

Because it’s not the size of the gift that matters, but the heart with which it is given.

Love matters. Our love matters. No matter the size.3 simple ways love bigHere are three simple ways inspired by Rachel that you can demonstrate love today:

Smile

Too often we underestimate the power of a simple smile. Some people seldom see one, living in a world of loneliness, pain, or sorrow. So go ahead, offer them a genuine smile; it’s contagious.

Hug

Granted, this one you have to be a little careful with, but next time you get a chance, don’t shy away. Give a hug. Receive a hug. You’ll both be blessed.

Greeting

In the Midwest, we are pretty good at this one: you know, that one or two finger wave. But don’t let it stop there. Say hello. Ask, how are you? Care for people and let them know it by a simple greeting.

Who knows, maybe it’ll be the beginning of a much longer conversation.

Inspired to Love Big With My Little

Everyone has the ability to demonstrate love to someone. Bob Goff (and Rachel if she could talk) would echo that to love big the action doesn’t have to be extravagant. Even if you can’t give away your business or help build schools, you can do one of the simple actions above (or all three).

How about it? Let someone know you care today. I bet you feel the love in return!

“Little children, let us not love in word or speech, but in action and in truth.” 1 John 3:18

Reflections: What’s a simple way you’ve felt loved recently? Is there an easy way to show love that you’ve been neglecting simply because you don’t think about it? How about posting a reminder in an obvious place.

Hello, I'm Julie, an imperfect wife and mother of four. Life in this broken world is not always easy. Yet, joy can be found in each day through the grace and mercy of the Lord Jesus Christ.

I find it's easy for our day's blessings to get lost in its happenings. But God's "mercies never end" (Lamentations 3:22) and His "grace is sufficient" (2 Corinthians 12:9).

May the posts and pages on this site offer you a measure of peace and encouragement.
