What Are You Willing to Do for the Lord?

“There are many of us that are willing to do great things for the Lord, but few of us are willing to do little things.”

Dwight L. Moody

Have you ever desired to play a bigger role for the Lord only to discover you are already where He wants you? What brought you to that realization?

Whose Idea Is This?

My grandiose ideas for my writing ministry were mine, not necessarily God’s. He never told me I’d have a large audience. He never suggested that I’d get a book contract or that my words would reach beyond my current friends and family.

He simply asked for my obedience in writing. Period.

My writing ministry may look small in my eyes and the world’s. But God magnifies all our little and seemingly insignificant offerings when done in obedience to Him.

God Magnifies Our Small Offerings

The small steps of obedience by us lead to great accomplishments by the Lord. Because little things become big in His hands.

Certainly, God uses the Max Lucados and Joni Eareckson Tadas of the world to make a difference. But God also uses unknown housewives; behind-the-scenes janitors, factory workers, and stockers; and the elderly and disabled to accomplish big things with their small offerings. Our roles, however menial, have a powerful and good impact when our heart is surrendered to Him.

Willing to Grow Where Planted

Because it’s the willingness to flourish where God plants us that defines the magnitude of our offerings. When you’re open to growing where you’re planted, He’ll have you producing abundant fruit in just the right season. Although He may have you growing plums instead of peaches.

The key to being used by God in mighty ways, then, is to surrender and obey His plan for your life, whatever that might look like.

So, the 1,001st time you change your child’s diaper matters. Every reassuring smile you give has great value. Each kind word you say or encouraging word you write reaches far beyond the intended receiver.

Don’t be deceived into thinking that you don’t matter or that you aren’t as important as someone else. God has a role for each of us in His Kingdom work until we breathe our last. And each of our roles embodies a good and worthy purpose when done in His name.

His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master.’

  1. Julie: You have given me a lot to think on.My word for 2018 was ‘Obedience.’ I am still learning about it. My word for this year is ‘Faith’. Yes, I am learning a lot about faith.
