What Makes Mothers So Special?
I’m always wondering how to be a better mom. Often beating myself up because I falter in this motherhood thing.
So I’m teaching myself to look at mothering differently.
Mothers aren’t special because they gave birth.
Mothers aren’t special because they are perfect. (Although mine is close. Psst—so is my mother-in-law.)
Mothers aren’t special because they provide everything that is desired.
Mothers aren’t special because they are beautiful (although they are).
Mothers aren’t special because they make every meal from scratch and knit wool socks and warm scarves.
No, none of these define a special mama.
Special Mothers
Mothers are special because they are always there when needed.
Mothers are special because they are willing to let go, even when it hurts.
Mothers are special because they care enough to say “no” when needed.
Mothers are special because they always welcome with an open heart and open arms.
Mothers are special because their love is unconditional.

I love that by that definition, even women with no earthly children can be a special mother to someone.

If you don’t have a special mother to praise, may you find comfort and a reason to celebrate in the arms of your Lord. For His love is the surest of all.
“[For this is what the LORD says,] ‘As a mother comforts her son, so I will comfort you'” (Isaiah 66:13).
Reflections: How are you being a special mother to someone? What are you celebrating about your special mother?
Give it a try. Join us at Lisa-Jo’s. And if you do scratch out a piece for 5 Minute Friday, go ahead and link it up in my comments as well. This week’s word is Comfort.

Hello, I'm Julie, an imperfect wife and mother of four. Life in this broken world is not always easy. Yet, joy can be found in each day through the grace and mercy of the Lord Jesus Christ.
I find it's easy for our day's blessings to get lost in its happenings. But God's "mercies never end" (Lamentations 3:22) and His "grace is sufficient" (2 Corinthians 12:9).
May the posts and pages on this site offer you a measure of peace and encouragement.

I agree
This tied right in with a card I received for Mother’s Day from one of my twin daughters. She emphasized no matter how old she got, she would never be to old to need me. I truly felt special.
How wonderful, Shelley! Cards and letters like that from our children are my favorite gifts. Have a lovely weekend.
