When You Stumble in Your Christian Walk [Are You a Hypocrite?]
There are parts of many days when I feel a bit like a hypocrite. As in someone who is not acting in accordance to who they profess to be. I profess in the hope of Christ yet at times feel hopeless. I list daily joy dares (thanks to Ann Voskamp for the inspiration) but dissolve in…
Why You Should Care about Seeing the Big Picture
Sometimes I get caught up in the little details and miss the big picture. I don’t think I’m alone. The Little Details I obsess over editing out blemishes in a photo instead of appreciating the image captured and spend hours making sure a post is error free, losing some of my “voice” in the process.…
Why You Too Should Consider Getting Noticed
I never really wanted to stand out in a crowd. To this day, I live in dread of attending a live show and being signaled out (You know, like comedians will do at their shows). I still prefer to work hard, complete my tasks, and then slink away satisfied with obscurity. However, as I grow…
Am I Willing…? (Reflections for Lent)
When my boys were little, I had to wrap them tightly in my arms to have their vaccinations administered. No matter how clearly I explained the importance of the shots, they refused to willingly submit to the pain, even if it would produce something good in them. They were too little to know better, but…
Why It’s Tempting to Hide (and Why We Don’t Need To)
We are tempted to hide whether we are 16 or 66. Sometimes it just seems prudent to be someone we are not—even as adults—even as Christians. In high school I never quite fit in. I grew up on a farm, so classmates grouped me in the “farmer” category. However, I excelled in academics, so “brain”or “nerd”…
A Christian Paradox [And the Only Question that Really Matters]
There is a seeming paradox in living as a Christian. It is both utterly simple and extremely difficult (nay, impossible, but for the grace of God). »The Christian life is simple in that faith the size of a mustard seed is enough. Yet it is difficult in that any amount of faith is sorely tested…
Holy Healing: the Greatest Sacrifice
Chances are you have experienced affliction and sorrow you never expected: intense pain that reaches deep into your souls, leaving you dry and withered, groaning for relief. You long for healing. I’ve read and heard accounts of suffering that left me staggering. Stories of horror unimagined. However, none left more of a mark on my…
“I’m so tired of hearing about bad things!” (Hope)
Have you listened to the news lately? It’s not very uplifting. No matter which way we turn sadness, horror, violence, and insanity greet us. I see it in the stories of the innocent lives snuffed out in the name of convenience. The endless wars. The street shootings and beatings. The name calling and mudslinging. The…
Take a Risk for Life
We must risk to truly live. Many years ago I interviewed a World War II vet. He was an amazing man. Sharing his stories of hardship and survival on the front lines. Since that interview, I’ve often wondered if I would have been as brave in the same circumstances. Would I have stood strong by…
Maintaining a Well-Manicured Lawn [God’s Way]
Have you ever noticed some plants are harder to mow than others? They just don’t cut easily, especially when they are allowed to grow a little longer … or when the mower blades are dull … or when I drive too fast. This happened to me a couple weeks ago. It required several passes over…

Hello, I'm Julie, an imperfect wife and mother of four. Life in this broken world is not always easy. Yet, joy can be found in each day through the grace and mercy of the Lord Jesus Christ.
I find it's easy for our day's blessings to get lost in its happenings. But God's "mercies never end" (Lamentations 3:22) and His "grace is sufficient" (2 Corinthians 12:9).
May the posts and pages on this site offer you a measure of peace and encouragement.
