Dive In (and See the Work of the Lord)
Yesterday I finally broke down and purchased my first tablet (an iPad mini). I’ve spent weeks researching the best option–the one that will most perfectly fit my needs.
I do the same thing with most any purchase, even relatively little ones. And this trait of mine is not confined to buying things. It drives my dear hubby nuts.
When it comes to living my life, I like to spend time figuring out the best strategy, a plan of action, and possible outcomes. Instead of jumping right in, I hesitate, worried there may be a better choice out there—even when the signs are fairly straightforward.
Good thing Moses didn’t operate like me, or the Israelites may never have left Egypt. That thought struck me as I read in Exodus this morning.
In fact, if it were up to the people themselves, they might still be Pharaoh’s slaves today. Only Moses’ leap of faith kept them moving forward.
What a faith that must have been! To repeatedly fail in his attempts to convince Pharaoh to let the Israelites leave. To have his own people ridicule and accuse him. Yet to still lead them into the wilderness without knowing much about God’s plan.
What strikes me most about this biblical account is that Moses trusted God to hold the waters of the Red Sea at bay while he and his people crossed over to the other side. That must have seemed like an eternity, walking between towering walls of water, wondering with each step if it would crash down and drown them all.
The Israelites’ freedom would have been lost if Moses had given into the fear that certainly assaulted him. Through faith, he made himself available for the Lord’s work.
It is good to be cautious and prudent when it comes to purchases and life choices. But on faith matters and following the Lord, dive in and see His amazing work in and through your life.
In the words of the upbeat Steven Curtis Chapman song, “Dive”:
But we will never know the awesome power
Of the grace of god
Until we let ourselves get swept away
Into this holy flood

“… Don’t be afraid. Stand firm and see the Lord’s salvation He will provide for you today….” Exodus 14:13
Q4U: What is preventing you from taking that leap of faith?

Hello, I'm Julie, an imperfect wife and mother of four. Life in this broken world is not always easy. Yet, joy can be found in each day through the grace and mercy of the Lord Jesus Christ.
I find it's easy for our day's blessings to get lost in its happenings. But God's "mercies never end" (Lamentations 3:22) and His "grace is sufficient" (2 Corinthians 12:9).
May the posts and pages on this site offer you a measure of peace and encouragement.

Hi Julie! I like how you wrote about what you read in exodus. Was it part of the SheReadsTruth devotional for today?
Encouraged: this is a good word to describe how I felt as I read your post!
Take care, Sara
Hi Sara. Thank you for your encouragement! I began my own Bible reading program last year and am just continuing on. I have 5 different sections of Scripture I read nearly every morning. This gives me law and Gospel, songs and history, and wisdom. This passage of Exodus really impacted me.
Grateful you stopped by.
