Faithfulness from Generation to Generation [Short Bursts of Encouragement]

Gold Brush Stroke

This past week I spent two days exploring Mom’s family roots. We traveled to where she grew up and where my great-grandparents are buried.

I saw old homesteads and where old homesteads should have been. I marked gravesites and updated incorrect birth and death records. I puzzled over old deeds and chuckled at faded photos.

But most importantly, I heard stories of growing up a Fischbach/Cimmiyotti descendant.

Those stories gave an account of struggles and suffering and love and faithfulness. Mom’s family wasn’t and isn’t perfect, and there were some very difficult times.

But I’m grateful to know my ancestors valued family. That my family heritage is one of pulling together in the end. Of not giving up on each other, even when things turned tough and painful.

God’s Faithfulness

Mom’s family exhibited faithfulness imperfectly, but God demonstrates it perfectly.

We read in the Scriptures account after account of His promises fulfilled. We see countless examples of His love poured out, His mercy granted, and His grace bestowed.

In the Word, we get a look at His sorrow and anger over the effects of sin and evil.

We hear His righteousness declared.

We receive assurance of our worth in His eyes.

Although the genealogy passages in Scripture lack excitement (at least in my opinion), especially those in 1 Chronicles, they do point to God’s faithfulness through all generations.

They reveal His plan to provide every opportunity for us to be with Him forever.

They demonstrate His everlasting love.

Regardless of your family’s legacy, you can rest assured, my friend, you have a Father who will never leave you nor forsake you.

You are inheriting a legacy of perfect faithfulness that will reach generation after generation.

That is a promise that will never be broken.

Yes, God is faithful to me. I know what it is like to not see faithfulness modeled in families. When I see dysfunction and unfaithfulness, it hurts me, my faith tradition and God, Himself.

Yes, sadly, unfaithfulness affects everyone, Cecelia.

I see God’s faithfulness every day of my life. My cup surely runneth over with blessings. I have seen His faithfulness most during my cancer journey. Also, just this week we may have an answer to a prayer for our family. It is a matter that we have been praying for over the last 5 years.

May His blessings continue to overflow to you and your family, Merry.

Julie Sunne

Hello, I'm Julie, an imperfect wife and mother of four. Life in this broken world is not always easy. Yet, joy can be found in each day through the grace and mercy of the Lord Jesus Christ.

I find it's easy for our day's blessings to get lost in its happenings. But God's "mercies never end" (Lamentations 3:22) and His "grace is sufficient" (2 Corinthians 12:9).

May the posts and pages on this site offer you a measure of peace and encouragement.
