You Are Not Enough (find security in the Lord)
We fool ourselves when we place our security in our own strength, skills, or knowledge.
“I’ll push, you pedal, Rach,” I encouraged my daughter, “then we’ll make it.”
By sticking with it, we did reach the top of that daunting hill and continue to do so quite often. Such perseverance is needed to complete many tasks and accomplish most goals. But we need more certainty than our own sufficiency for the hardest times of life.

False Security
We set ourselves up for disappointment, frustration and, yes, even bitterness when we think pedaling or pushing harder is all it takes to get through the difficult seasons in life. I do it all to often.
If I just try a little harder or find the right treatment. If I can come up with the correct formula or talk to that certain person. Then I’ll discover the solution.
However, there are many things in life that are beyond our control, out of reach of our skills, or impossible for us to handle in our own knowledge or strength.
True Security
We must find someone more trustworthy than ourselves to place our hope in. We need someone mightier, someone all-knowing, all-powerful, all-seeing, and all-loving to help us out. We need to seek God’s direction and intervention each and every day to guide us and strengthen us for this race called life.

Certainly we need to do our part. But we will face hard circumstances, and our part will never be enough. No matter how highly others think of us or we think of ourselves, we’ll eventually come to the end of “us.”
If we haven’t set our foundation on the Lord, if we haven’t surrendered and placed our trust in His goodness and sovereignty, we’ll be left desperate in our circumstances. The only true security we can depend on is found in the love, mercy, and grace of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Not Easy but Possible With God’s Help
We aren’t guaranteed an easy race this side of heaven, but when we invite the Lord into our daily run/walk, we’ll find the way clearer and the finish line reachable.
So go ahead and push and pedal your way up that hill, but don’t forget to seek God’s help as you do so. Maybe, just maybe, he’ll flatten the hill a bit for you. Either way, you can be sure he’ll be helping you make it to the top.

“Seek the Lord and his strength;
seek his presence continually!” 1 Chronicles 16:11
Reflections: What hill(s) are you facing today? Have You sought the Lord’s direction and guidance to make it to the top? Where have you seen Him faithful in the past?
By His Grace,
Julie
Hello, I'm Julie, an imperfect wife and mother of four. Life in this broken world is not always easy. Yet, joy can be found in each day through the grace and mercy of the Lord Jesus Christ.
I find it's easy for our day's blessings to get lost in its happenings. But God's "mercies never end" (Lamentations 3:22) and His "grace is sufficient" (2 Corinthians 12:9).
May the posts and pages on this site offer you a measure of peace and encouragement.
