Opportunity in Disguise [FMF]

Gold Brush Stroke

I don’t think I’m the only one who avoids hardships and hurtful moments if at all possible.  In fact, it is normal for most of us.

However, struggles are unavoidable. We will all face them. And I’m discovering that’s not such a bad thing.

It’s often in and through the suffering where opportunity is most present. Refinement through fire allows us to grow, mature, sympathize—to become humble and moldable. To become most Christlike.

We are the most available and most accessible when we are at our weakest. We have the most potential when we have nothing to hold onto and nothing to offer except Jesus Christ Himself. (←Click to Tweet this!)

In other words, the greatest opportunities usually come when we are least expectant, when we feel least capable. Because it is then we are properly prepared to accomplish tasks in His strength, not our own.

I’m not sure I’ll be welcoming tough times anytime soon, but such verses as the one below does give me pause to think maybe bad times aren’t so bad after all. Maybe times of difficulty are really just opportunities in disguise.

“But He said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness.’ Therefore, I will most gladly boast all the more about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may reside in me. So I take pleasure in weaknesses, insults, catastrophes, persecutions, and in pressures, because of Christ. For when I am weak, then I am strong.” 2 Corinthians 12:9–10

Q4U: Have you ever considered weakness as a good thing? Do you have a story to share of a disguised opportunity? I’d love to read about it in the comments.

None of us welcome tough times, but they come along anyway, and Christmastide is a good reminder that no matter what God is always with us. “Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall
conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.” (Isaiah 7:14) Emmanuel—God is with us. May God bless you.

Absolutely, David! Wonderful reminder. Indeed, God is with us–always.

Julie Sunne

Hello, I'm Julie, an imperfect wife and mother of four. Life in this broken world is not always easy. Yet, joy can be found in each day through the grace and mercy of the Lord Jesus Christ.

I find it's easy for our day's blessings to get lost in its happenings. But God's "mercies never end" (Lamentations 3:22) and His "grace is sufficient" (2 Corinthians 12:9).

May the posts and pages on this site offer you a measure of peace and encouragement.
