Unwrap Today

Gold Brush Stroke

Today holds a promise that’s easy to miss. Promised Daycompressed

In my younger years, I was eager to grow up.

As a young adult, I couldn’t wait to finish college.

Once out of school, my wedding captured my time and attention.

Married and childless, thoughts of having my own children consumed me.

After my first little guy was born, I remember thinking how neat it would be when he could talk and walk (shortly after he began doing both, I decided he could have waited a little longer :)).

My little family continued to expand, and I couldn’t wait for my kids to be old enough to play catch, go on hikes, hold “adult-like conversations …

Now my oldest is off to college. My second will soon join him. And all my children are in double digits. I’m middle age–trying to find God’s direction and purpose for my life. My husband and I are tossing around ideas for our empty-nesting years.

How did I get here? Where did the days go?

No doubt, I captured the glory of some days. Yet, in my eagerness to get to the next thing, I often missed the promise of the current one. I still often miss it. What a shame.

God created and ordained each of our days. Each day holds a promise for us. A promise of purpose and meaning. One day building on the previous. We are not to skip over one promise to get to the next. What will we then miss?

Cherish each day. Spend time unwrapping today’s gift. Concern yourself with tomorrow when it becomes today. Be present in the gift of now.

“This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it” (Psalm 118:24)

Reflection: What is one gift you’ve noticed about today?

Julie Sunne

Hello, I'm Julie, an imperfect wife and mother of four. Life in this broken world is not always easy. Yet, joy can be found in each day through the grace and mercy of the Lord Jesus Christ.

I find it's easy for our day's blessings to get lost in its happenings. But God's "mercies never end" (Lamentations 3:22) and His "grace is sufficient" (2 Corinthians 12:9).

May the posts and pages on this site offer you a measure of peace and encouragement.
