What Makes Jesus’ Death and Resurrection So Amazing?

“Was it for crimes that I had done He groaned upon the tree? Amazing pity! Grace unknown! And love beyond degree!” ~Isaac Watts Every time I thought about her and what she had done to me, anger bubbled up. She hurt me. I knew I should forgive her, but honestly, I didn’t want to.  That’s…

Why You Must Fight To See Goodness in the Midst of Your Suffering

Hard stuff can rip us apart if we let it, if we don’t see God’s goodness, but suffering doesn’t have to be joyless.  In Press Into the Lord Now and Know a Confidence Not Even Death Can Shake, I wrote of the incredible pain I experienced in the death of my unborn children.  In that pain, I…

Press Into the Lord Now and Know a Confidence Not Even Death Can Shake

When you grow to know the Lord, His character and His promises, you develop a confidence not even the worst tsunami can sweep away. I lost my first baby at around 10-week’s gestation and had no anchor to keep me from being swept into the tsunami of grief. Nothing. Nada. Oh, sure, I believed in…

When Discontentment Threatens, Look for the Beauty (It’s Always There)

Beauty often remains hidden … until we look for it. I love winter. (Now don’t hurl tomatoes, or something worse at your screen as you read this!) There are a number of valid reasons why I feel this way. I think you can relate to at least some of them: It’s generally a slower time…

Two Things You Must Do When Everything Is All Wrong

Even in the darkest days there is light. Even when everything is all wrong, there is hope. Even in the most tangled path, there is a way to joy.  When It Is All Wrong Can I be honest though? I’ve felt hopeless. Not now, but years ago. I believed nothing good would ever come again.…

You Are Never Truly Alone

Although we often feel lost and alone in this life, we never truly are. A while back I had a dream, I guess a nightmare really. I had parked in a beach lot in Florida and walked over the dunes to sit on the beach as Hurricane Irma approached. A young lady with intellectual delays…

How To Love Well and Be Loved Well

You can’t be loved well and you can’t love others well while pretending. So let’s quit it. Let’s quit posturing and start loving well. Let’s dive into the deep recesses of what makes us tick and let that seep out to others. Too many of us cover up who we are with a pasted-on smile.…

What Suffering Is Doing for Me (and can do for you)

Suffering is simultaneously breaking me down and building me up. And it’s both incredibly hard and amazingly glorious.   On a particularly difficult Sunday, I confessed through my tears to my pastor’s wife. “I don’t know how to raise Rachel. I can’t do this! I don’t know how to care for a child with special needs.” I posted…

For Better or Worse …. Staying Committed In Marriage and In Matters of Faith

For better or worse.  Little did my husband and I know what those words would mean when we repeated our marriage vows nearly three decades ago. Worse wasn’t just one deep valley but many strung together to become a deep trench. Five babies lost to early pregnancy loss and caring for a child who will…

Real Hope After Pregnancy Loss (book review)

When people ask how many children I have, I still sometimes hesitate. Do I only mention the four I’ve raised over the past 23 years? Or do I include the five babies I lost in early pregnancy? Should I say four or nine? I’m not alone in my struggle to answer this question or to…

Julie Sunne

Hello, I'm Julie, an imperfect wife and mother of four. Life in this broken world is not always easy. Yet, joy can be found in each day through the grace and mercy of the Lord Jesus Christ.

I find it's easy for our day's blessings to get lost in its happenings. But God's "mercies never end" (Lamentations 3:22) and His "grace is sufficient" (2 Corinthians 12:9).

May the posts and pages on this site offer you a measure of peace and encouragement.
